On this episode of The Omnibus Show, we welcome Henry Mestetsky, Executive Director of the Carmel Redevelopment Commission. Mestetsky was born in Kiev, Ukraine and moved to the U.S. – Indiana specifically – in 1994.
Listen in as Mestetsky talks about his path from Ukraine, to IUPUI, IU’s Kelley School of Business, IU Maurer School of Law, and eventually to Carmel.
He discusses the theory of walkability – if it’s safe, comfortable, convenient, and interesting people will walk instead of drive, as well as the history and importance of walkable cities. Mestetsky explores the vision of Carmel and why its downtown was designed to resemble a European city square. He also explains the need for a city square in order to foster community engagement and connection.
