Today’s episode of The Omnibus Show will feature Melanie Brewer and Anne O’Brien from the City of Carmel. Brewer is the Senior Project Manager, Community Relations & Economic Development at the City of Carmel. O’Brien is the Project Manager and Carmel Arts & Design District Liaison.
Brewer, who has worked for the City of Carmel for eighteen years looks at what Carmel looks like as the city looks to transition from Mayor Jim Brainard to the next mayor elect. She goes on to discuss the development, including all the roundabouts, groundbreakings, and grand openings she has been a part of.
“There are about 120 annual events managed by the city. We get a taste of everything in Carmel.” Brewer went on to say how fun it has been to watch the city and her department grow from two employees to ten as new events have come onboard.
Brewer, who also serves on the board for the Youth Assistance Program in Carmel explains how it came to be and just how important it is.
“Children are our future. People come here to feel safe and to have things to do,” Brewer stated. The Youth Assistance Program exists for people who live here who find they need help. The Program works with families directly and helps with anything from monetary assistance to mentoring and tutoring.”
“There is a stigma here that we are well off and have great jobs. What we forget is there are other needs. We’re not untouchable to issues and situations where families need help.”

O’Brien, who has been with the city two years now, describes how the events change with the seasons, and highlights some of the new things you’ll see this winter – including new winter garden houses in addition to the igloos seen around town, and a special Leap Day Birthday Party to round out the season at The Ice at Carter Green.
